Three workshops start off REACTION
Two clinical workflow workshops were held at the Chorleywood Health Centre northwest of London and at the Medizinische Universität in Graz. The aim of the two workshops was to collect information on current clinical workflows used for diabetes management and therapy, as well as identifying the needs and desires for the future and the new workflows that will be enabled by the REACTION platform. The first of these workshops focused on outpatients whereas the second focused on inpatients. Participants in the workshops included REACTION partners and external stakeholders, e.g. clinical experts, nurses, diabetes patients and informal carers. The third workshop was a vision scenario workshop, which aimed to elicit future visions about diabetes management and therapy. Scenarios are an extremely useful and important tool for specifying end user requirements and subsystem functional, security and societal requirements. The workshop used the well-known IDON Scenario Thinking method to identify certain and uncertain factors that will influence future diabetes management and the future use of intelligent networked medical devices in closed-loop services. These factors will then be used to create four distinct vision scenarios, or storyboards, that will provide the framework for the subsequent iterative requirement engineering phase. External participants included two pharmacists, two ICT experts (from the NHS Technology Office and BIS Electronics Innovation respectively) and a consultant on Vascular Surgery and Telemedicine. The workshop was held at the Chorleywood Health Centre.
