This is the REACTION project

The aim of the REACTION project was to develop an integrated ICT platform that supports improved long term management of diabetes based on wearable, continuous blood glucose monitoring sensors and automated closed-loop delivery of insulin.

The REACTION platform presents an interoperable peer-to-peer communication platform based on Service Oriented Architecture (SoA) using cloud-enabling midddleware. It will feature a Model Driven Application Development environment based on extensive use of dynamic ontologies.

The REACTION platform provides integrated, professional, management and therapy services to diabetes patients in different healthcare regimes across Europe, including 1) professional decision support for in-hospital environments, 2) safety monitoring for dosage and compliance, 3) long term management of outpatients in clinical schemes, 4) care of acute diabetic conditions and 5) support for self management and life-style changes for diabetic patients.

The project ended on 28th February 2014, however, this website will be updated occasionally.

Paper accepted for publication in Journal of Diabetes and its Complications

REACTION has had a paper on risk models for diabetes complications accepted for publication in the Journal of Diabetes and its Complications.

The paper is titled 'A systematic review of predictive risk models for diabetes
complications based on large scale clinical studies' and is authored by the Institute of Computer Science from the Foundation for Research and Technology and Chorleywood Health Centre.

REACTION online demonstrators now on the website

The REACTION project is planning to develop online demonstrators of selected features of the REACTION platform. The demonstrators will be available here on the project's website as part of the dissemination efforts. The first demonstrator is now available. Click on the item 'Online demonstrators' in the menu to the left.

REACTION videos now on the website

The REACTION project will produce a number of videos as part of the project's dissemination of results to the public.

The first video is now available on the website.

The video shows safe glucaemic control in the hospital ward, which was the subject of the first year's prototype demonstrator. In the general ward, a REACTION application monitors a range of parameters including glucose level, nutritional intake as well as measures of administered drugs (e.g. oral anti-diabetic drugs or insulin) among other parameters (e.g. insulin sensitivity).

See the video here.
